2016-Leveraging Skills-Based Volunteers: A Primer for Nonprofits

Share this:

This workshop is for nonprofit leaders and will focus on preparing you to work successfully with a skills-based (pro bono) volunteer. It will highlight:

• Understanding the use of and need for skills-based volunteers
• Ensuring your nonprofit is “pro-bono ready”
• Scoping your project and finding skilled volunteers
• Best practices for managing your projects

Amy Klein, Executive Director, VolunteerConnect

Amy, a California native and UCLA graduate, has broad nonprofit and volunteer experience. Having begun her career as a volunteer, her recent work has been extensively in the development and fundraising fields. Amy has donated countless hours of volunteer work throughout her life, from beach cleanups to suicide hotline support and skills-based work such as event planning.
She currently is the executive director of VolunteerConnect and has successfully launched the skills-based volunteer movement in New Jersey, which includes short-term impact projects and nonprofit board training for individuals and corporations. Amy is on the advisory board of RSVP of Mercer County and sits on committees with the Mid-Jersey Chamber of Commerce Nonprofit Executive Council, Princeton Community Works, and the Central New Jersey Chapter of Ellevate (formally 85 Broads). When she’s not advocating volunteerism, Amy can be found with her husband and two children, gardening or playing with her adored chocolate Labrador.

Kim Bruno, Development Director, The Bridge Academy and Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees, VolunteerConnect

Kim Bruno began her career in the financial services industry where she spent more than 16 years in a variety of jobs, including branch management, corporate training, and sales and marketing. She moved to New Jersey in 1997 and focused her attention on working with community nonprofit organizations, gaining experience both as a staff member and on the board. Over the last 10 years, Kim has been an active board member, concentrating on fundraising, board governance, publicity, and marketing.
She has worked with organizations as diverse as the Hopewell Valley YMCA, Chamber of Commerce, Recreational Foundation of Hopewell Valley, Soroptomist International, Friends of Hopewell Valley Open Space, and a number of educational organizations. Kim is currently the development director at The Bridge Academy in Lawrenceville and serves as vice chair on the board of trustees for VolunteerConnect.
