The ABCs of Fundraising: Acquiring, Building, and Cultivating a Donor Base

Nurturing donor relationships is often compared to dating. How do you go from the first date to marriage? Many nonprofits spend a lot of resources to attract potential supporters. Sandra Toussaint-Burgher

Sandra Toussaint-Burgher is the President and CEO of United Way of Greater Mercer County (UWGMC). Prior to that Ms. Toussaint-Burgher held the position of Vice President of Resource Development where she served as lead strategist for cultivating revenue streams. Toussaint-Burgher has over fifteen years’ experience in fundraising, strategic partnerships and marketing. Prior to joining UWGMC, she served as Director of Development for an educational nonprofit in New York City, Youth Communication Inc. Ms. Toussaint-Burgher has held several senior positions at local and national organizations including Special Olympics and Twenty-First Century Foundation. Ms. Toussaint-Burgher is active with professional and community organizations including Association of Fundraising Professionals and The New York Women’s Foundation. She has presented at conferences and workshops, most recently Princeton Community Works and the African American Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey. Ms.Toussaint-Burgher holds a Masters of Public Administration from New York University’s Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service and a B.A. from Hunter College.
